Click on the individual steps below to learn about each phase of the custom, home building process.
- First Impressions
Tour one of our beautifully decorated model homes and be inspired by the latest trends, features, ideas, and colors. Cranbrook Custom Homes offers an innovative approach to custom home building by tailoring our process and each home to fulfill your individual needs.
- Discovery Session
After you’ve discovered custom home building is the best fit for you and your family, you will meet with a Cranbrook Custom Homes’ sales counselor and discuss your limitless options. Do you want to build one of our plans, or design your own? What finishes are important to you in your new home? With this information, your sales counselor will compile an initial price out, base estimate for your dream home.
- Meet Stephen McKay, Associate AIA, LEED-AP, Certified Green Professional
Next you will meet with Stephen McKay, Cranbrook Custom Homes’ partner. You will decide if a Cranbrook plan works for you or if your lifestyle is better suited to a home created specifically with you in mind. You and Stephen will perfect your home, ensuring the space is designed appropriately, your desired finishes are included, and all expectations are exceeded.
- Home Visit/Initial Design
A home site visit with Stephen McKay will help determine the views and orientation for your dream home. During this meeting, you will also discuss your ideal outdoor living style. What about an outdoor kitchen featuring a built-in grill, or perhaps a pizza oven? Will there be another play center? These are the important considerations to ensure your home and your home site complement each other perfectly.
- Conceptual Design
Stephen McKay will seamlessly incorporate all your dreams, your ideas, and the inspiration you have collected into a one-of-a-kind design. You will meet with Stephen and refine the design through several interactive design charette meetings to perfect your home.
- Design Development
You have now zeroed in on a design that fits your family and your lifestyle. You’ve also visited the homesite to visualize your home, but no work of art is complete without refining the details. Stephen will work with you to design special elements of your home such as fireplaces, custom ceiling details, and exterior materials to ensure every detail is customized to your needs and budget.
- Contract Finalization
Your dream is now a reality! Your home has been designed and architecturally approved, including a construction plan, complete with all your custom details and specifications. Now it’s time to make it official! Your Cranbrook associate will price out the home as it’s been drawn. Upon your approval, the sales associate will have you sign the purchase agreement.
- Breaking Ground on Your Dream Home
Now that your dream has been realized on paper, it’s time to bring it to life. You will be notified when construction will commence, as well as during various points of the home building process. Communication is key. We guarantee that together, Cranbrook Custom Homes and you will be active participants in the building process.
- The White Glove Experience
With the structure of your home completed and your home under construction, it’s time to have fun selecting final finishes. Thanks to our White Glove service, you’ll be able to easily select the finishes for your home. We will also schedule your appointments to pick out appliances, cabinetry, granite and stone, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, flooring, and more. You will spend time with our interior designer, who can help coordinate all the finishes and colors throughout your home.
- Final Construction Walk Through
During this final stage, you will walk the home with a Cranbrook Custom Home team member to ensure all your custom home expectations have been met, right down to the smallest detail.
- Your Dream, Realized!
This is it! Pinch yourself as much as you want, but this is one dream from which you won’t wake! The breathtaking space you’re in is your new, one-of-a-kind, completed Cranbrook custom home!
